Business Networking - 9 Tips For Success At The Networking Event
You have prepared and planned for your networking event with almost military precision. You have arrived in plenty of time; you are relaxed and mentally prepared. Now what do you do? Do you rush in and hand out business cards to anyone who will take them? No! Don't do that. Here instead are nine great tips that will help you maximize your networking enjoyment and potential success.
Tip One - Meet your pre-arranged contacts
After you have been greeted by the event host, and if you previously arranged to meet with a sponsor or business colleague, make sure that you seek them out as promised. Do not spend all your time talking to the people you know well. Save this for another day. After all, everyone is really there to meet new people.
Tip Two - Get introduced to others
Use the host or people you already know to introduce you to others that you may want to meet. This method gets rid of the sometimes awkward ice-breaking stage.
Tip Three - Be the introducer
This is a great way to feel confident. Introducing people demonstrates your confidence and social grace. Pay particular attention to people who seem lost, shy or simply isolated. They will love the chance to be introduced to someone so after talking a little with them yourself, find out who they want to meet and then make the introduction. You will feel really good about this simple act.
Tip Four - Refreshments and snacks
These can be a nightmare. If the event has a sit-down meal element that is fine and you can eat and talk as you would in any other dining situation. If the refreshments and snacks are intended to be eaten whilst mingling then I would suggest that you stick to soft drinks only. Even handling a cup and saucer with coffee or tea can be tricky when you are expected to shake hands or kiss cheeks. Don't even get me started about people spraying crumbs of food when they talk or getting food in their teeth - leave the snacks for later.
Tip Five - Be careful with your promises
This may sound counter-intuitive but don't just give your cards out to everyone you meet. Only swap contact details with people you feel it is worth keeping in contact with. It is unfair and a waste of everyone's time to give the impression you want to connect with people you really don't want to connect with. If you promise to call someone or follow-up with some more information, then you had better make sure you do it. Make a to-do list and stick to it. This will help you protect your hard-earned credibility.
Tip Six - Be a fantastic listener
This is a really key social, business and life skill. Learn to listen well and attentively. Listen to what is not said as much as what is said. People love to be listened to and will like you all the more as a result. You will learn much more. We generally all have two ears and one mouth so use them in that ratio.
Tip Seven - Be helpful whenever you can
People are naturally drawn to helpful people. Offer advice only if asked and only if you are qualified to do so. Offer to send articles of interest to people or provide helpful contacts. Givers get, as they say, and what goes around comes around.
Tip Eight - Be yourself
It is hard to be anyone else so why bother trying. Be honest and don't fall into the trap of making false claims to impress people. They will find out eventually. It is very easy in the heat of the moment to inflate our own importance. It is not necessary. People will like you all the better for just being you.
Tip Nine - Smile
In my opinion, the best tool in the networking toolbox. You'll feel on top of the world. Smiling is infectious and people will be drawn towards you. You will put people at their ease. Smiling indicates confidence and control. People want to see that in potential suppliers and referral partners.
That's it for now. I hope you enjoy all your upcoming networking events. You now have more knowledge than many others so relax and enjoy meeting your potential new customers or referral partners. Listen carefully and openly to what they have to tell you and, more importantly, what issues they want to solve.

Success Formula for Networking Events
The most obvious thing as a networker I notice when going to networking events is that most event goers are not aware of how they can make networking work successfully for themselves and their business.
I believe that there are four things you need to do and understand before networking will reach your expectations.
The first being is to know what, where, why and who your niche market is. What are you looking to achieve when you are going to events? Are you aware of who you are needing to meet for your future success? Why do you want to be in that marketplace? Do you know where you need to be to meet those business people?
These are really crucial questions if you want to get your networking right! Once you are aware of these four questions you can then set out to achieve what you want in the most cost and time effective way. Word of mouth marketing is not a 'hit and miss' experience. There is a formula that I believe will bring success once you know your niche and move to that area for your connections.
Prior to going to any event you need to have goals on what you wish to achieve during the time you are there. Are you setting goals and making sure that they come to fruition. It is important that you accomplish what you set out to do and do not leave the event until you have achieved it.
Socialising is very important and you are there to meet new people, so don't spend the time with people you already know and have developed a relationship with already. Your time with people you know needs to be limited to at least a third of your event time. Be aware of people who appear not to know anyone and support them to meet others. This will help you move into new circles of attendees. Do not leave the event until you have achieved what you went there to do! Don't be pushy in regards to your business, you are there to learn about the other attendees firstly!
The most important part of any event is your follow up - what you do after you leave and go back to your office. Make sure you email people you have met that you feel you would like to know better and see again. It is very important that you send a nice friendly email WITHOUT any promotion on what you do in your business. One of the first turn off's is when someone emails to say 'nice to meet you, here is what I do'. That type of email gives you the license to hit the delete button!
Networking is all about relationship building and giving without expectation on return. Your first priority is to learn as much as you can about the person you are making contact with, asking them for more and deciding if you wish to meet them again on a one-on-one basis or at a future event. It is important that the email you send states what your intentions are in regards to learning about them. Remember, you do not know who they know or you may be looking for someone for your network who does what they are doing or you may just want to know them better and develop a personal business relationship with them.
We all have different reasons for our networking and it is very easy to just turn up and expect things to happen. Networking is all about the ACTION you take to make it worthwhile for you and your business future.

What's The MLM Secret To Success?
Sometimes when things aren't going well with a person's MLM business, they sometimes begin to wonder, what is the MLM secret to being successful? Guess what, there is no MLM secret to being successful. As you read this article, you may ask, how do you know there is no MLM secret to being successful? Well, after being in this business for several years, after trial and error, and after having success and failure, I've come to learn that the only MLM secret to being successful is YOU!!! All the success and failures I've had in multi-level marketing is directly connected to my actions and as well as my inaction.
When I stopped blaming others for my failure, that's when I began to have success. Because this is a people oriented business, and you have to work with people to make it to the top, you won't like everything they do, when it comes to building your business. Unfortunately, everyone in this world isn't as honest as the next. You will have people who will try and walk over you, to try and get to the top. But what they don't know is, if they do make it to the top, it will be a short lived success. The old term goes, what goes around, comes around. You can't do people wrong, and just think you're going to get away with it. I've always said, you may get me once, but you won't get me a second time. Through my experience, once I learn how a person is, if they mean me no good, I still remain courteous, but I keep them at a distance. I only work with those who respect me, my time, and my experience as an individual, and I shall do the same in return.
Now, being successful in any business means doing things others won't do, going places others won't go, in order to have things, others don't have. Yes, sometimes you have to put in long hours, because you survive and or feed your family. Sometimes it seems like there isn't enough time in a day to get everything done. Rich people have same amount of time in a day as poor people, it just depends on what you do with the time you have. I've constantly heard people tell me; I don't have the time to do a business. Yet, they will turn around in the same breath and complain about having to work a parttime job, along with their fulltime job, because they don't make enough money. I always say, where there's a will, there's a way. Being successful in business means you have to be relentless in finding a way to succeed. You may ask, is there an MLM marketing system out there that works? Sure, there is a MLM marketing system out there that works. As a matter of fact, there are many.
The one I recommend is the MLM formula. Once its setup, it's becomes automated. Eliminating some of the steps of a typical MLM business. The MLM formula is the best online MLM marketing system I've found yet. But I would be remiss if I didn't say this. No MLM marketing system will work, if you're not willing to put in the time and effort to make it successful. That's all to it. You have to take action for it to be successful. Some reasons why people don't take action, is because they have a fear of failure. But what they don't realize is, action cures fear. You have to get uncomfortable, before you can become comfortable. Once you take action, whether it's the right or wrong action, you begin to see something happen. If it's not the results you're looking for, then you have to adjust that action, until you get the results you want. Don't let inaction, be the cause of failure of your business. If you don't have the right MLM marketing system, search for a MLM marketing system that works. Once again I say, what is the MLM secret to success? The MLM secret to success is YOU!!!

Monetise Your Business Wardrobe for Success
It is amazing the number of people who come up to me at networking events and say that I should go and talk to a business or professional person that needs to dress better.
The way we dress is determined by many things. Our upbringing, our current financial state, our self-beliefs, our desire to please others, our motives and our dressing knowledge and skills can influence the way we dress. Some dress to show their wealth and status and some dress to hide it. For women, every life event causes us concern about what we will wear. None of us want the embarrassment or shame of getting it wrong.
Here are my three modern dressing tips for business and professional women over 40 to help you build a wardrobe that adds value to your working life.
Get Rid of Poor Investments
Any investor knows that hanging on to poor performing assets will drain or destroy your future wealth. So it is with your wardrobe.
Now is the time to go through your clothes and accessories with a critical eye. We have all heard the old adage about dressing like the next job level you want. That also applies if you are in business for yourself. Clearly define your goals for the next 12 months and look to see if each item in your wardrobe represents you at that level of income. Keep the ones that do and get rid of those that drag you down or keep you forever at your current level. Dispose of your cheap, make-do items as well as the expensive, classic suits that do not fit your future direction. You may not be able to do a complete purge but you can devise a plan for replacing items at a better level.
Also check items for repair and alteration. Scuffed shoes and ill-fitting clothes are noticed by others. Fix them or throw them out.
Pay Yourself First
Another important investment rule is to put a certain percentage of your income aside for monetary growth. This also applies in your professional wardrobe.
Put part of your income aside to invest in purchasing well-made, quality clothes and accessories. You may buy them at full-price or on sale. Go for brand, fit and the quality. People do decide to employ you, have you speak to their group or give you a promotion based on their impression of you. When you buy judiciously, you can use personal appeal to do part of this work for you. A good first impression makes the next step easier. A poor first impression means you have to work harder to turn it around.
Learn all the modern dressing skills you need to represent yourself as professional, approachable, confident and forward-thinking. Buy books, go to workshops or pay an Image Consultant to gain the edge over your competition. Create your unique brand and show your personality through what you wear.
Money Loves to Work and Be Appreciated
The classic money novel, The Richest Man in Babylon by George S Clason reminds us that money will lose its value if we do not put it to work. Hide it under the bed and inflation will erode its value.
Once you have started to build a wardrobe of better quality clothes that suit your 12 month goals, make it work for you. Working clothes that are rarely worn are underperforming assets. Quality, modern, neutral pants and skirts can mix and match with a variety of tops, shirts and jackets. Use accessories to diversify your basic clothing investments and give them variety. Increase your awareness and appreciation of the abundance in your wardrobe by working out new clothing combinations.
Step up and have professional photos taken for promotion and advertising. Opportunities to speak can arise at any time. Even short elevator speeches are an opportunity for your clothing to reinforce your business message and personality. You do not need a massive dressing room filled with clothes. Fewer, well-chosen clothes working often will bring you financial rewards.
Last Words
Talking to other people about their dress sense needs to be done with sensitivity and respect. Lift your clothing and yourself to the next monetary level and other will notice and want to know your secret and who taught you those dressing skills.
